The Women's Studies in Asia textbook is a series from eight Asian nations-China, India, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea, the Philippines, Taiwan, and Thailand. This volume is about women's studies in South Korea. Designed for an upper-undergraduate and graduate level audience, this textbook offers English materials on key women's studies themes in many cases for the first time. The book covers a wide range of issues, including family, work, sexuality, culture, law, women's movements, religion, body and health. Given that most women's studies programs in Asia have assigned predominantly local or Western materials due to a lack of translated materials about neighboring women's concerns and socio-political histories, the publication of this book will be groundbreaking, providing both Asian and a broader international audience access to knowledge produced by, about and for Korean Women. The authors' hope is that this textbook will serve as a foundation to develop more theories drawing on the common and diverse experiences of Asian women, and open up multiple possibilities for comparative and collaborative work. The editors of this book are Chang Pil-wha and Kim Eun-shil who are both the professors of Women's Studies at Ewha Womans University. |
